The Baby Rollercoaster

The ups and downs of parenthood. Last night (well, Tuesday now) went about as perfect as you could ask for with a baby. We put Emma in her bed for the first time and she went right to sleep. When she woke up to eat, she went right back to bed. When I left for work, she stayed asleep. Pretty awesome all in all.

Now for tonight (now last night), we got back from Kevin and Michelle's house and tried to put Emma down after Michelle fed her - pretty much like last night. No dice. Emma was wide awake. I'm talking eyes bugged out just to show her parents that she means business and she is not going to sleep without a fight. So we try to settle her down, Michelle works some of her Mommy Magic. We think we're looking good and then BAM! More crying - Emma is again, wide awake.

So around midnight we decide to take her on a car ride. We hit the road and after about 10 minutes, Emma is out. Chelle and I drove through a couple of the neighborhoods around our house looking at Christmas lights. Really for the most part, the lights in the neighborhoods around here stink

When we get home, Emma is out. Good to go right? Again, no dice. We get home and she is wide awake. So I try get her to calm down, not one of my strong suits yet, and it doesn't work. So I try to bottle feed her for the first time. She went right to it and killed that bottle. Still wide awake. So then I try to play this CD of lullabies since I don't know any, and that works pretty well - until the pause in between songs, then more crying. It came time for her next feeding (still a little early I'm sure) and Michelle worked some more of that Mommy Magic and PRESTO! Emma was out.

At least we're on a schedule. One perfect night. One terrible night. Get ready Grandparents!

The cool part is that I just got back from basketball and she was still out, and looking like a little angel. I realize that we have a mostly happy, normal, healthy baby that has so many people that already love her. (Just so it doesn't sound to sappy and like I'm watching more Oprah, which I'm not, Michelle wrote that last part.).

I heard Oprah has Hannah Montana on today....will you tape it so we can watch it together!?! You are such a sissy. Turn on ESPN classic and get Emma watching American Gladiators!
